— The project

A modern quarter built the Newari way — homes, ateliers and cafés gathered around three brick-paved courtyards.

Minutes from Patan Durbar Square, the Courtyard Quarter reinterprets the chowk — the traditional Newari courtyard — for contemporary life. Three interlinked courtyards in handmade dachi brick and carved timber anchor thirty-two residences above a curated ground floor of ateliers, galleries and cafés. Craftspeople from Lalitpur's own guilds are shaping the facades; the engineering underneath is entirely of this century. It is a development about continuity: the density, shade and neighbourliness of old Patan, rebuilt to modern seismic and comfort standards. Announced for 2029, with design development underway.
